Questions

Booking & payment

How do I reserve a space?

Fill out the reservation form and tell us what you're storing. You'll get your agreement and your exact price back the same day. Once it's signed and paid, the space is yours and we'll schedule your drop-off.

If you'd rather do it on paper with a check, say so and we'll mail you a packet instead.

Do I have to pay for the whole season up front?

No. Month-to-month is available on everything. But paying in full is 15% cheaper and it's one transaction instead of seven — most people do it that way.

Can I pay by check?

Yes. Tell us on the form or over the phone and we'll mail you a packet with the agreement, an add-on order form and a return envelope. Checks are made out to North Country Wellness & Development LLC.

Paying the season in full by check or bank transfer takes $10 off — card processing costs us on a payment that size, and we'd rather pass the savings along than add a fee. Monthly customers are welcome to pay by check too; the discount just applies to the single up-front payment.

Do you charge extra for paying by card?

No surcharge — card, bank transfer and check are all the same price. If you're paying the season in full, check or bank transfer takes $10 off.

Is there a deposit?

Not if you pay the season in full — your payment holds the space, so there's nothing extra to collect.

If you're paying monthly, there's a deposit — $40 to $75 depending on the space, or $125 to $150 for anything 16 ft and over. It's held as a security deposit for the term and returned within 30 days of pickup, less any unpaid balance. Your monthly payments are billed separately.

Either way, if you reserve and then cancel before dropping off, the deposit is forfeited. That's what makes it a hold rather than a maybe.

What if my plans change after I've paid?

Call us. Season agreements and annual agreements have different early-exit terms, both spelled out in your paperwork — annual refunds unused full months at the non-discounted monthly rate, less one month. Nothing in there is a surprise, and nothing is buried.

Dates & the season

When does the winter season run?

October 15 through April 30 — six and a half months. Summer season runs May 15 through October 1.

Can I drop off before October 15?

Yes. October 1–15 is our service window — early drop-offs get staggered across those two weeks so nobody's waiting in line, and it's when detailing and shrink wrap happen, before vehicles are packed in for the season.

If you've paid for the season in full, early drop-off during that window is included at no extra charge.

What if I can't pick up by April 30?

Nothing dramatic happens. Your agreement rolls to month-to-month at the current rate and you pay for the days you use. Prepaid customers can extend a full month at the paid-in-full rate.

May 1–15 is the pickup window — scheduled slots, same as drop-off. Book a spring detail and your vehicle comes out ready for the road.

If I pay monthly, how does the half month work?

The winter season is six and a half months, so the half lands at the front. You pay half a month at drop-off to cover October 15 to November 1, then a full payment on the 1st of each month, November through April. Six full payments plus the half — it comes out to the season total exactly.

Coming November 1 instead? Then it's six payments, no half month, and the season total is lower to match. You don't pay for the two weeks you didn't use.

Can I start partway through the season?

Yes. Paid-in-full is prorated by the full months remaining, and any partial first month bills at the monthly rate by the day. You're not paying for October if you show up in December.

Getting to your vehicle

Can I get my vehicle out during the winter?

Yes, by appointment. Indoor vehicles are parked in rows, so pulling one from the middle means moving others — give us a few days' notice and it's no problem.

If you know you'll want it more than once or twice, add Active Access for $15/month. You get an aisle-adjacent space and unlimited in-and-out during posted hours.

Can I just stop by and look at it?

Not unannounced — the building isn't open for public access during the storage term. That's deliberate. The only people inside are the ones who should be.

Call and we'll set a time.

How does trailhead access work?

Gate code, come and go, no appointment needed. That's the whole point of a trailhead spot — your rig sits minutes from the trail system and you drive up and hook on whenever you feel like riding.

The lane serving trailhead spots is plowed through the season.

Getting your vehicle ready

The five-minute version

Full tank with stabilizer. Fresh oil. Tires up to pressure. Battery on a tender. Nothing edible left inside. Don't set the parking brake. That covers most of it.

How should I prep my vehicle for winter storage?

For anything sitting from October to spring, the usual advice holds up:

  • Fuel — fill the tank and add stabilizer. A full tank leaves less room for condensation.
  • Oil — change it before storage rather than after. Used oil is acidic and you don't want it sitting in the engine for six months.
  • Tires — inflate to the recommended pressure or slightly above. Reduces flat-spotting on a vehicle that isn't moving.
  • Battery — on a tender, or disconnected. Six months is more than enough to kill one.
  • Parking brake — leave it off. Pads can bond to rotors over a long sit. Use chocks instead.
  • Inside — take out food, wrappers, paper, anything a mouse would want to eat or nest in.

Wash and dry it before it comes in if you can. Road salt sitting on paint all winter is worse than the winter.

Do I need a battery tender?

For anything sitting past January, yes — especially modern vehicles with electronics that draw current even when parked.

We'll hook one up and keep an eye on it for $12/month per vehicle. You supply the tender and it needs to be UL-listed. If you'd rather just disconnect the battery, that works too.

Should I put a cover on it?

Indoors, a breathable cover is fine and keeps dust off. Don't use a plastic tarp. It traps moisture against the paint and does more harm than leaving it uncovered.

Outdoors or in a carport, a proper fitted cover rated for outdoor use is worth having.

Do you start vehicles during the season?

No. Starting a stored vehicle and letting it idle briefly does more harm than good — it puts moisture into the exhaust and oil without ever getting hot enough to burn it off. Prep it properly in the fall and leave it alone.

What about mice?

We keep the buildings clean and monitored, but no storage facility in northern New Hampshire can promise a rodent-free winter and you should be skeptical of anyone who does.

What actually helps: remove all food and paper, don't leave nesting material, and consider blocking the air intake and exhaust if the vehicle is going to sit the whole season. Tell us if you'd like traps set near your space.

Any rules about fuel and propane?

Fuel in the vehicle's own tank is fine and preferred. No loose gas cans, spare fuel or full propane cylinders stored with the vehicle — that's a fire rule, not a preference.

On campers and RVs, close the propane valves. If the tanks come off easily, take them home.

Insurance & liability

Do you insure my vehicle while it's stored?

No, and neither does any other storage facility — it's worth knowing that plainly rather than assuming otherwise. Your vehicle is stored at your own risk and your own policy is what responds if something happens.

Do I need to carry insurance?

Required for all boats, RVs and campers, regardless of size — we'll need a copy of the declarations page or a certificate before drop-off. A photo texted over is fine.

For everything else we ask you to give us your carrier, policy number and expiration date, or to confirm in writing that you're carrying none. Either answer is acceptable. Not answering isn't.

Why do you want my policy expiration date?

Because the winter season is six and a half months and a lot of classic-car and marine policies are written for six. If yours lapses in March we'd rather know in October.

What we can store

What kinds of vehicles do you take?

Cars, trucks, SUVs, motorcycles, snowmobiles, ATVs, side-by-sides, dirt bikes, boats, RVs, campers and trailers. Classics and daily drivers both.

The largest thing currently in the building is a 41 ft motorhome. If you've got something bigger, call before you assume it won't fit.

Can you store a project car that doesn't run?

Yes — just tell us when you book. A non-runner gets placed where it won't need to move, and we'll want to know whether it rolls and steers so we can plan how it comes off the trailer.

How do you measure boats, RVs and trailers?

Overall length at drop-off — bumper to the furthest point aft, including the outboard, swim platform, bow pulpit, spare-tire carrier and trailer tongue — rounded up to the next whole foot.

That measurement goes on your agreement and it's what governs billing. The length you give us over the phone is for quoting, so we can tell you a price before you drive up.

Can I store more than one vehicle?

Plenty of people do. Each vehicle gets its own line on the agreement so the pricing is clear, and they don't have to go in the same place — a daily driver can sit in the carport while the collector car goes inside.

The facility

Are there security cameras?

A camera system is being installed this fall. It is not live yet, and we're not going to claim it before it's working.

What is in place: a gated property with keyed entry and a biometric padlock, and no public access during the storage term.

Do you plow?

Yes, included in every agreement. Lanes serving carport and trailhead spaces are kept open through the season.

Is the building heated?

It's cold storage — enclosed, dry and out of the weather, not climate controlled. For the overwhelming majority of vehicles that's exactly right, and it's why it costs what it costs. Consistent and dry beats warm.

Where exactly are you?

1327 Main Street, Berlin, NH 03570 — on Main Street, easy in and out with a trailer, and minutes from the trail system.

Payments by mail go to 11 Marne Ave, Berlin, NH 03570.
