About NCCS

A building that has taken care of Berlin's vehicles for more than eighty years, and a family that intends to keep it doing exactly that.

The building

Serving drivers since the 1940s

Long before North Country Cold Storage, 1327 Main Street was home to The Motor Mart Inc. — a full-service automotive institution in Berlin. Washing, polishing, lubrication. Sunoco gas out front, General Tire on the sign.

It was first owned by Peter Gosselin and later by Richard Gunn, and it served generations of Berlin drivers as a staple of Main Street for decades.

The building has never stopped serving vehicles. After The Motor Mart it operated as an industrial supply location before our family took it on. The brick walls, the overhead doors, the concrete floor — they've been doing this work for over eighty years. We're just the next chapter.

This building has been serving Berlin's drivers since the 1940s. We're honored to carry that forward — and to build on it.

Our story

Keeping it standing

North Country Cold Storage is a veteran-owned family business. We run lean, we take the work seriously, and we don't make promises we can't keep.

Every season stored here goes back into this building — stabilizing brick, upgrading systems, improving security and lighting. A hundred-year-old structure on Main Street doesn't stay standing on its own, and storage is what pays for the work that keeps it upright. The cars, boats and machines here this winter are the reason the roof gets fixed.

Longer term, we want 1327 Main Street to serve Berlin in a health and wellness capacity as well. That's an addition, not a replacement. This building has stored and serviced vehicles for eighty years and it's going to keep doing it — the plan is to give the rest of the square footage a second job, not to take away the one it already has.

Berlin is our community and we're invested in its future. One season at a time.

How we operate

What you can expect from us

Straight talk

We're upfront about what the facility is and what it isn't. We don't advertise features we haven't finished — when the camera system goes live this fall, we'll say so then, not now.

Published prices

Every rate is on the website. No "call for pricing," no quote that depends on what you're driving when you pull in. You'll know the number before you commit.

Simple process

Reserve online, sign digitally, drop off on a scheduled slot. If you'd rather do it on paper with a check, say so and we'll put a packet in the mail. Both work.

Always improving

Security, lighting, drainage, wash capability — the facility gets better every season because that's where the money goes. We'll tell you what's done and what's still coming.

One point of contact

The person who answers the phone is the person who measures your boat, parks your car and hands the keys back in spring. If something's wrong, you're calling the owner, not a call center.

Community first

Berlin is home. Storing here helps keep a piece of Main Street working, and we take that responsibility about as seriously as we take your vehicle.

From the owner

A note from Josh

Slot B · 1:1

When I look at that old photo of The Motor Mart — the Sunoco pumps, the General Tire sign, the lubritorium bays — I see what this building has always been: a place where people in Berlin brought the things they depend on and trusted someone to take care of them.

That's still what we're doing. The machines are different and the prices have gone up a little, but the commitment is the same. Storage is what this building has always done, and every season you store here goes right back into keeping it standing.

If you're storing with us this season — thank you. You're helping write the next chapter of this building's story.
